I first came across this song when listening to Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden’s “ Under the Missouri Sky”. I was captured by its beautiful melody right away. From then on, I had to find out more about this tune and thus lead to my discovery of many wonderful renditions by other artists.

The lyrics is just as beautiful as the melody itself. “ As long as love still wears a smile, I know that we'll be two for the road, and that's a long long while.” This resonates with me as I totally believe love can conquer all.

During my summer vacation in Europe, my husband and I stopped over Amsterdam as he wanted to take a guitar lesson from the great Jesse Van Ruller. My husband always put on Jesse’s music at home, so I got to hear his music quite abit. I have to admit that I am an amateur in the jazz idiom but I can always tell if the musician is telling a good story or not, through the improvisation. I could tell Jesse is amazing.

In the meantime, I was also working on my Duo Concept album, and I thought to myself since I’m here in Amsterdam, maybe I could be so bold to invite Jesse to cut a track with me, no harm asking right? As they say
“ you have already failed, if you don’t try “.

To my great joy and surprise, Jesse agrees and our rendition of “ Two for the Road “ was born. At the recording, I have experienced what the phrase
“ world class “ musician means, but more importantly, the sincerity , the patience and the kind heartedness , are not virtues I would expect to go hand in hand with being “ world class ”. For this, I’m truly grateful and humbled to have witnessed this first hand.

Sometimes, dreams really do come true. Just need to have a-bit of imagination.

I hope you would enjoy this song as much as we do.
Thank You.
